On 21 October 2026 the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) apologised in an open letter to its customers, members and volunteers for continuing disruption to its systems. The letter is signed by Chief Executive Vanessa Harwood-Whitcher and Interim Independent Chair Anthony Blackman.

What happened

In February 2026 IOSH launched several new systems at once: a customer database, a training provider portal, a transactional website, a members' area and integrations. IOSH says the problems were "significantly greater than anticipated" and it remains in incident-response mode.

Impact on courses and certificates

  • Workbook ordering and fulfilment fail intermittently.
  • Digital workbooks and certificate release and dispatch are still affected.
  • IOSH's status page (22 October) lists login, payment and certificate-purchase problems on the provider portal.
  • Membership upgrades are handled manually (target: 10 working days) and new applications for the PDA route to Chartered are paused.

What next

IOSH says it does "not yet have a reliable date for full restoration of every service". Members who could not renew keep their professional status, and the Trustees have commissioned a fully independent lessons-learned review.

Tip for learners: if your certificate is late, contact your training provider. The IOSH certificate checker works if details match the certificate exactly.
